Realization is Self-Arising

Hello there,

A Realization Process student in the second year of teacher training recently wrote to me:

“I was listening to a song by Marconi Union, and found that it put me into the 'space' of FC in some way. I'm curious if you've ever used music to enhance RP practices or if you have a similar reaction to this particular track. Here is the Spotify link: Click Here."

My response:

Thanks for pointing me to Marconi Union. I will listen to more of their music.

I don't use music to enhance RP practices - by their very nature, guided meditation, music would distract me from the pointing of the words.

That said, I am stable in my attunement, so now I am always settled in my body in/as the ground of being (fundamental consciousness) when I am with music. I receive the sounds and they illuminate the stillness as they flow through me; I dance settled inside my body and it becomes a spontaneous expression of the movement flowing through my whole being.

We practice Realization Process to ready our body-being for this kind of "nondual perception."

Judith reminds us that Realization Process exercises are "stretches" that help us open to the pervasive space of fundamental consciousness.

We can't make realization happen. We practice Realization Process to prepare ourselves for the self-arising of our unity with the pervasive ground. The RP practices help us "let go of our grip" and open more interior space for on-going oneness.

It sounds to me like you were listening to/being with this music and you experienced fundamental consciousness arise spontaneously. That's wonderful!

You've opened enough for this unconstructed attunement to begin.

My experience is that this will happen more frequently for you, sometimes when with music, sometimes in nature, sometimes completely out of the blue.

Don't seek it - the seeking gets in the way. But do keep practicing, keep opening, keep allowing what is. Remain curious and, gradually, you will settle enough to become stable.

And also please know that it's not really a matter of getting it "perfect."

Judith reminds us that we only have to be "whole enough" for stable, ongoing attunement to fundamental consciousness. Then we can work on the rest of our gripping from the vantage of the ground of being.

I have found this to be true for myself, and for many RP students and teachers.

The student wrote back:

"The experience I had didn’t feel like a spontaneous experience as when being in nature. Rather, the rhythm and flow of the music stimulated the experience of inner space. ChatGPT describes this music as 'Weightless, Reflective Mood: The sound evokes solitude and vertical space — as if floating or drifting…'

Therefore, the nature of the music evoked a sense of space for me."

I felt a misunderstanding here. So I responded:

I don't doubt that ambient music is able to draw people into space. People experience that with singing bowls, chanting, drumming, ambient music... And that is wonderful, meaningful, relaxing.

However, Realization Process is a practice method that points you to that still spaciousness inside (and outside) your body, so you can live comfortably grounded within the subtle core. We call it space because it feels spacious.

Our attunement to the "space" of FC is experienced as stillness, unwavering and unchanging, not "floating or drifting." That is a lovely feeling, but I'm not sure it will help you to live and breathe feeling steady and comfortable within the subtle core of your body.

Thank you for writing to me.

With Love...

Candace
